Joan Melton is a pioneer in the integration of singing techniques and voice/movement training for the actor. The author of two major textbooks, she has taught at major centers of theatre and music in the US, UK, Ireland, Australia and NZ, and has worked as a performer, music director, and/or voice and text coach on productions in virtually all media. She is a Master Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework® and heads groundbreaking research projects in the US and Australia.
Rusty Curcio is a Certified Movement Analyst in the Laban/Bartenieff System of Movement Studies. He toured internationally with Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo for nine years, was with Les Ballet Grandiva de Russia for two seasons, and performed in New York with Peridance Dance Ensemble and Acanthus Ballet Company. He is much in demand as a director and choreographer, works regularly in musical theatre, and heads the dance program at Wagner College.
This two-day workshop is divided into four three-hour sessions:
Session I introduces new research and experiential work connecting the technical trainings of actors, singers, and dancers.
Session II focuses on expression and on how the body impacts the voice.
Session III introduces extended voice techniques and breath management styles across a range of performance genres.
Session IV looks at phrasing in voice and dance and includes opportunities for performance coaching.
Please wear clothing that allows you to move easily, have a piece of memorized text to use with exercises, and bring along written music for songs that require accompaniment.
